Chait was born in Johannesburg in 1943, he was educated at King Edwards VII High School. After serving for a year in the Defence Force, he attended WITS medical school where he qualified in 1968. He was registered as a Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon in 1973 and became a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at WITS in 1999. Chait became interested in sculpting at a very early age, but began taking it seriously at the age of 23. He was basically self taught but gained advice from a number of local sculptors over the years. His main influences have been from the sculptures of the Cycladic culture and the tribal art Africa. Sculptors such as Lipschitz, Hepworth, Brancusi, Moore, Khumalo, Legae and Borborecki have also played a significant influence in his development. Chait has been exhibiting since 1975 and has been involved in many group exhibitions over the years, such as: Trevor Coleman Gallery 1978 and 1981. Natalie Knight Gallery Hyde Park 1990, 1992 and 1993, and the Crake Gallery in Norwood. Laurence has also done many public and private commissions. Today Chait works exclusively in bronze.

The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
